ABOUT USWasatch Kids Wellness
Hi, I am Malinda Horton and I have spent many years working with children and young adults in a variety of healthcare settings. Providing integrative medicine has been my greatest joy and passion!
How did I get here?
Over the years I became frustrated with the idea that treating symptoms with medication was the best way to do medicine. I knew that while medications have their place, I realized that I wasn’t happy with practicing this way and not treating the source of the problem. I wanted to be more involved in prevention and making people aware that our food and environment are full of toxins that cause cancer and other health problems and how to avoid or reduce their exposure to these dangerous toxins. I knew that clean food was crucial to healing and felt that my patients needed more information on how to use food as medicine as well as dietary and herbal supplements that support the body to heal itself.
In 2009 I started a granola business. Why? I make great granola and wanted my own business! As I explored ingredient sourcing I became more aware of genetically modified organisms (GMO) and other toxins in our food supply. I then took a course from the Institute for Responsible Technology so that I could speak about these issues and help more people become aware of what’s in their food.
I needed to learn more and attended a nutrition conference sponsored by The Arizona Center for Integrative Medicine which changed the course of my career and life. I went on to complete the 2 year integrative medicine fellowship at the University of Arizona under the leadership of Dr. Andrew Weil. I completed it in 2013. Little did I know that my fellowship was only the beginning of my education!
I went on to study functional medicine in order to further understand the source of disease and how to restore function to the different systems in the body. I was also interested in helping people with mood and behavioral disorders while minimizing medications, so I received specialized training through the Walsh Research Institute. Dr. William Walsh taught me how to use his nutrient protocol to help balance the brain’s biochemistry in both children and adults.
I am a certified aromatherapist through the Institute of Integrative Aromatherapy and I love using herbal medicine. I have been trained by Dr. Tieraona Low Dog, MD who is an internationally known herbalist and integrative medicine practitioner. I continue to study through her Foundations in Herbal Medicine program. I can also help you with pain issues through my advanced training in Frequency Specific Microcurrent.
On my own
I am so excited to be in private practice. I feel that this gives me the opportunity to truly practice what I have been trained in and in the way that I know is best. It allows me to work with my patients in depth on a long-term basis and I don’t have to rush through appointments!
I believe that God led me on this path to give hope and help to people who may feel that there is no answer to their pain or emotional problems. While my focus is on children, I also work with adults who want to utilize the Walsh nutrient protocol to help balance brain biochemistry. I am excited to share what I know and partner with you and your child to find the best natural solutions to a better quality of life!
